Repairing the Windows 10 Boot Configuration data error

 

 

 

 

 

Some of you may have come across this error either after you have updated to a new build or some have said it was after they performed a windows update. Either way this will not let you boot into recovery even after pressing the F8 key.

To fix this error follow these steps:

You can either create and use a bootable usb or use the Windows 10 media cd.

Bootable USB option

Creating a bootable Windows 10 USB drive.

  1. Download Windows 10 media creation tool for 32-bit machines64-bit machines.
  2. Make sure you have your usb drive plugged in (Use an 8GB).
  3. Once downloaded, run the tool.
  4. Select Create installation media for another pc, click next.
  5. Select your language, Windows 10 version and Architecture, click next.
  6. Select USB flash drive, click next.
  7. Select your USB drive, click next. The relevant files will now be downloaded.
  8. Click the Finish button when done.

Repair Windows using the bootable USB drive. Depending on the manufacturer of your computer, to view bootable options you need to press F10 key on startup or with some computers its the F12 key.

  1. Insert your USB drive and turn on the computer.
  2. Press the F10 key or with Dell computers press the F12 key to view bootable options.
  3. Select USB device.
  4. Once loaded, Set the correct time and Keyboard type.
  5. Click Repair your computer in the lower left corner.
  6. Select Troubleshoot from the Choose an option screen.
  7. Click Advanced options in the Troubleshoot screen
  8. Click on command Prompt.
  9. Type in the following commands and hit enter after each line of command:
  10. Bootrec /fixmbr
    Bootrec /fixboot
    Bootrec /scanos
    Bootrec /rebuildbcd

Windows 10 Media CD option

  1. When you boot your computer using Windows 8 DVD a black screen appears with “Press any key to boot from CD or DVD“. quickly press any key or the space bar.
  2. Once loaded, Set the correct time and Keyboard type.
  3. Click Repair your computer in the lower left corner.
  4. Select Troubleshoot from Choose an option screen.
  5. Click Advanced options in Troubleshoot screen
  6. Click on command Prompt.
  7. Type in the following commands and hit enter after each line of command:
  8. Bootrec /fixmbr
    Bootrec /fixboot
    Bootrec /scanos
    Bootrec /rebuildbcd

After you have attempted these methods, boot the system normally to see if the issue is fixed. If the problem persists, you may have to re-install your Operating system.
